Internship: Biodiversity Data Collection and Visualisation

After graduating, I completed an internship at Chiswick House and Gardens where I was tasked with improving community engagement and biodiversity monitoring at the site. I created an online form with drag and drop menus through which visitors can submit their notable animal sightings within the grounds, along with an R script to summarise and visualise the resulting data. I set up the script to automatically produce word document outputs after simply running the entire script with monthly iterations of the data, meaning future users do not need any technical knowledge of R (an example of one of these outputs is presented in PDF form here). I was really happy to be able to make a meaningful contribution to preserving urban biodiversity in my local area, working as part of a broader biodiversity project ('Letting the Light In') which was nominated for a 'Best of the Best' Green Flag Award.
